Where in the World are We?

After nearly 20 years of waiting to go, we finally make it to see the Pyramids of Egypt.  This time our trip takes us to Athens, Greece; Istanbul, Turkey; Cairo, Egypt; Malta, Sicily, and Rome, Italy.

We take the Cunard Queen Victoria out of Athens and visit nearly a dozen ports of call on this 12 day Mediterranean cruise.

BTW, always fly in/our at least a day early and day later than the cruise schedule!  Flights have become more and more unreliable and missed connections becoming the norm.  Atlanta and NYC are never on time anymore.  On this trip we were delayed in Atlanta, missing our Athens flight, so had to stay in a hotel at JFK.  Luckily, we had extra days and trip insurance to help!

Click the photo above, or links below for photos and details.

We can heartly recommend Fantasy Travel in Athens, Greece for any extras, such as transportation from airport and port or hotel, as well as tours, etc.  They did an excellent job, even when we had to rearrange our meeting time due to the flight delays. They met us at the airport and private escorted us to our hotel (Philippos Hotel, Athens) and the next day, to our ship.  Also, can recommend the Philippos hotel, located within walking distance of the Acropolis.

Colorado Rafting - Aug. 2008

Dan and I head West to Colorado and down the Arkansas River with Wilderness Aware Rafting and Ian, our guide.

We have been very lucky with the weather, even thought its been scattered showers, nighttime downpours and even hail, we have had clear weather for all the river rafting and on the horseback ride.  Its finally cleared enough to see the mountains and they already have some new snow on them. its been about 50-60F during the day, but getting warmer. I have plenty of layers of clothes so no problem.  And this is August!

Luckily we are not camping this time. It would have been wetter in camp than in the river! Instead, we were high and dry at night in very nice B&B's.

Mammoth Cave, May 2008

I had been wanting to do the Mammoth Cave Wild tour for years now.  This is not your walk along the path type adventure!  Six hours of crawling, climbing, and otherwise squeezing through some real cave....

Its been 20 years since I had done some caving with an amateur group, and I was wondering if I could still do it!

This is one place that being 5'6" and relatively thin helps greatly!  Football players would not do so well here.

We also spent time in Nashville and other sites in Tennessee and Kentucky.
